Tarang is currently a Managing Director at the leading tech investment bank in San Francisco, Atlas Technology Group.


Prior to co-founding Bois Capital, Tarang was an SVP of Innovation in the office of CTO at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and worked with Tier 1 VC backed emerging technology startups ranging from mobile payment and commerce to SaaS and Telco software. He influenced some of the key transactions including Radian6 acquisition by Salesforce, Dasient acquisition by Twitter, and VivoTech acquisition by Sequent.
As an investment banker, Tarang has led several key transactions including telematics leader Syncromatics’ acquisition by Spain based GMV, mobile-first media leader Kanvas Labs’ acquisition by AOL/Verizon, mobile ad network TapIt’s acquisition by Phunware, mobile payment startup PayDivvy’s acquisition by HigherOne, $30M capital raise for Science Inc from Hearst Interactive, and pre-acquisition capital raise for CRISI Medical Systems.
Prior to Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Tarang was a venture capitalist at SoftBank Capital, a venture capital fund, where he helped with investments in mobile, digital media, and enterprise software startups totaling $50 million. In his venture career, he has reviewed 1,000+ startups and served as a board member and CEO advisor for a dozen plus startups. He led diligence and board support for SoftBank Capital’s investments in ThumbPlay (acquired by Clear Channel), xAD (leading location based mobile ad network), AdInFuse (acquired by Velti), PureVideo (acquired by Wasserman Group), Foomojo (now Rivet Games), Insider Pages (acquired by Citysearch), and Communicado (acquired by Americom and Tone Software).

Tarang started his career as a product marketing manager for Qualcomm where he marketed CDMA technology to wireless carriers in Asia Pacific and won two product marketing awards. At Ericsson, he led their first 3G wireless system of $200M in R&D as a systems product manager, which he helped bring to market with leading customers including China Unicom and Tata Wireless. At Ericsson, Tarang also led a cross-functional team of 30 members to build a rural 3G productline and brought it from concept to commercial trials before joining SoftBank Capital in 2005.
Tarang is fascinated by the science of startup success and has co-authored a very popular book on entrepreneurship & venture investing called, “Venture Capitalists At Work” (
He passed CFA Level II in 2005 and holds MBA from Thunderbird, and MBA and BSEE from Gujarat University (India). He is advisor to and investor in a tech VC fund Moore Venture Partners, leading cloud collaboration firm Mavenlink and healthcare IT disruptor Frame Health.
